My coaching has charted its own unique course over the last 15 years. Developing organically as I have worked with each client, it has ultimately centred on makers’ stories: why they do what they do; why they are drawn to their material; what has inspired them; what has occurred in their lives and in the lives of their families that has led them to be makers.
Last year, sensing that my work was increasingly accessing deeper aspects of my clients’ lives, I took it upon myself to enhance my skills. I read many books on different types of coaching practice and had conversations with other coaches, and I finally fell upon Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I had to test my hunch that it would prove useful, so I embarked on a six-month period of coaching for myself, to ascertain if NLP as an approach was right. Finally satisfied that it was, in January I committed to an intense course of Neuro-Linguistic Programming training. It has been a revelation!
Coaching is about honouring a client, creating a space where a maker can explore safely, while allowing them to reach beyond their limits. Studying NLP represents the expanding of that safety net, and the widening of my techniques and skills. This recent period of personal development hasn’t stopped here though, I am now seeking my next course!
