Celebrating UK Designer-Makers

I had the pleasure of meeting Charlotte – known colloquially as “Catt” – when she approached me about joining Greenwich Peninsula Market. It took mere milliseconds to say yes! Here was a multi-disciplinary artist bringing something new and fresh to craft. An artist, a jeweller, an “artist-jeweller” if you will, Catt’s work is full of sinuous curves, organic textures, expressive brushstrokes and human hair.

No, really, human hair …

Charlotte utilises her own hair in her work. She is also obsessive about sustainability, her metals are recycled in her work and any spare materials are used and used and used until nothing remains.

Handmade work is always infused with the spirit of the person who made it. How can it not be? It’s why I am so obsessed with the power of a maker’s story. However here, the work is not only infused with the spirit of Catt, it literally contains her DNA!

Charlotte E. Padgham is truly a one-off! Do check out her extraordinary work.
