The New Ashgate Gallery Rising Stars Exhibition 2025 Opens!

In March, having first seen another safe launch of Canopy Market, I hot footed it to Farnham to judge this year’s New Ashgate Gallery Rising Stars. With fellow judges Outi Remes – New Ashgate Gallery Director – and Debra Allman – Programme Director for Jewellery, Ceramics and Glass at The University for the Creative Arts – we toured an exhibition beautifully curated by Outi and the New Ashgate Gallery team before finally settling unanimously on a winner.
Huge congratulations to Makila Nsika! We chose Makila’s jewellery for its beauty, its use of sustainable materials and for the way it effortlessly straddles cultures and continents. Zillah Puri was awarded second place, and in a new development for the award, Xinyi Chen was awarded a special judges’ commendation. I must commend all the finalists, who are an exceptional group of makers.
